Wardrobe Design

Wardrobe 3D Design

When it comes to designing a set of wardrobes for your bedroom, the shape or layout and of course the overall size of the room itself will determine to a great extent the wardrobe possibilities for that room. As a fairly general guide:

  • If a bedroom has long straight walls available for wardrobes, then sliding wardrobes would be a good choice (but certainly not the only one) for that room.
  • If there are irregular walls, corners, areas around chimney breasts or angled ceilings for example, then the more traditional hinged door fitted wardrobe might be the best choice.
  • If there is a large open alcove or a smaller separate room off the main bedroom then a walk in type wardrobe might be the best use of that space.

Sliding Wardrobes

Sliding wardrobes have become very popular over the last decade and offer a number of advantages over more traditional hinged door wardrobes:

  • If contemporary style is your thing, then sliding wardrobes offer a wider range of choices - doors can be made from pretty much any sheet material you can think of!
  • Sliding doors don't open out into a room and so can be built quite close to beds or other furniture where space is limited.
  • A set of sliding doors can easily be retro-fitted to an existing set of wardrobes without the need to change around the internal layout.

What about disadvantages? Well there’s just one really:

  • Sliding door wardrobes don't work well in smaller rooms. If the overall width of the space available is less than 160cm then more traditional hinged doors would be a better choice.

Walk-In Wardrobes

Walk In Wardrobes

A walk In Wardrobe or Dressing Room is a great addition to any bedroom.  If you are lucky enough to have the space for one it is well worth taking the time to fully think through the design and layout to be sure you make the best use of all the available space. The main advantages of walk in wardrobes over other types of wardrobe are:

  • Typically walk in wardrobes don't have doors. You can see all of your belongings at a glance - no rummaging through shelves looking for something!
  • They work well in small spaces since there's no need to allow for opening clearance for doors.
  • They can be quite cost effective - there's no doors, hinges or handles required!

Wardrobe Doors

If there’s such a thing as a standard type of wardrobe door it would be a vinyl wrapped MDF door. Vinyl doors are available in a wide range of colours and patterns to suit all tastes – traditional, modern and contemporary.

We work with a number of suppliers and are able to offer wardrobe doors in a wide range of materials:

  • Lacquered, stained or painted solid woods.
  • Lacquered, stained or painted veneered MDF.
  • Vinyl or foil wrapped MDF.
  • Coloured MFC.
  • Glass and Mirror Panels

Although there are several choices for material when it comes to your wardrobe doors it’s hard to look past vinyl wrapped MDF. Why? Because of the huge range of colours and patterns available. and it’s lower cost when compared to the other alternatives.
